Chilli Plant Update - 3rd August 2018

The look on some people's faces as they walk past the house is absolutely priceless! I should set a camera up and take mugshots for the site. Several years ago an elderly man stood by the gate and had a really good look at the porch plants before going about his business. Five minutes later he came back again and knocked at the door to ask what house number such and such a person lived at, and then we got the real reason for his visit. He was more interested in what I was growing than he was in wanting to know directions to someone's house. Seriously, some people are so nosey that they could eat corn on the cob through a Venetian blind.

I know it hasn't been very long since the last update, but yesterday afternoon I edited a large batch of photos and wanted to post some that were taken of the chilli plants before I forget.

It's surprising how quickly things progress at this stage in the season because since posting the last update a lot of new growth and ripening has been taking place here. I think it becomes much more noticeable when you're taking photos of the plants.

Edit/Update: I removed some of the lower growth from the Habanero porch plants earlier to allow for more light and better air circulation. This is important, especially if you're growing in a confined space.

I had some surplus chilli plants left over in the spring and didn't want to throw them away, so instead I planted them out in the vegetable patch to see what would become of them. Inca Red Drop appears to have done the best and has produced a fair amount of chillies considering its size. There are also some good-sized Jalapeños and Aji Lemons. I guess it's a testament to how good the weather has been in the UK this summer.
