Chilli Plant Update - 22nd June 2019
The weather hasn't exactly been chilli plant friendly since posting the last update, and most days here have been overcast and rainy. For this reason the growth has been a little slower than usual, but thankfully things are now starting to pick up. There are still no promises of an African inferno looming on the horizon, but yesterday and today have been nice sunny days.
The Mini Rocoto Brown plant was moved outside to a partially shade spot so I could make more room at the inn. I also have a hunch that Cap 1445 will be following behind it very shortly, either into the greenhouse or outside in the garden. On Thursday evening both the Red Mayan Habanero plants were re-potted into 12-litre pots and the whole chilli plant tribe was given its first dose of full strength feed. Hopefully, by this time next month they'll all be like triffids.
A few small chillies have started to form on the Capsicum annuum and Capsicum baccatum varieties, but the Capsicum chinense varieties are only now just going into flower mode. Here are some photos I took earlier showing the individual varieties.
The Capsicum baccatum varieties were treated for aphids last Thursday and I also noticed a few on the Aji Guaguao plant earlier too. I've squashed all I could find between finger and thumb and will keep checking it daily for the next week. If they keep reappearing then it too will have to be treated.
