Red Rocoto

Species: Capsicum pubescens | Origin: Peru | Pungency: Hot

Red Rocoto, also known as 'Rocoto Rojo', is a variety from Peru. The plants have a large spreading growth habit and produce very good yields of thick-walled, juicy peppers which start lime green and ripen to bright red. The blocky-shaped peppers can range in size from that of a small apple to that of a good-sized bell pepper. It is well suited to cooler climates and performs very well outdoors here in North Wales during the growing season. Red Rocoto peppers are great for spicing up many types of food, such as stews, soups, salsas, sauces, stir fries, rice dishes, pasta dishes and casseroles. This variety makes a great choice for stuffing due to the size and shape of the peppers.
